Welcome

Welcome to "Enchanted After All," an AU Potterverse RPG set in modern day magical Ireland. Our game is questionably advanced (advanced without the attitude or SRS BZNS) and is definitely character-driven.

If you're into quirky members and comedy, this board may be just right for you. An affinity for libraries, tea, knitting, cats and sparkle peen also helps

Synopsis
Enchanted After All focuses on adult witches and wizards residing in Ireland. The board's main plot will come into play largely through the Irish Ministry of Magic, which also serves as the board's main setting. The IMoM serves as the structure for the game, though characters are in no way limited to roles within the Irish magical government or the British magical government.

Blood discrimination is very mid-80s at EAA. The political intrigue of the day focuses on the classification of disregarded beings as magical beasts, thus designating them to minor rights and second-class citizenship -- which many feel is too good for those beings to start out with. Groups on both sides of the issues have gained momentum, begging the question: which side is your character on?

The Basics
This RPG is based on a the wizarding world of Harry Potter in present day. EAA practises an alternate version of the Potterverse. In fact, we've simply taken Harry Potter out of the mix. To put it simply: this RPG is about the wizarding world of today, not the events of the Harry Potter series.
Please refrain from mentioning: Voldemort; Harry Potter; Death Eaters; Hermione Granger; et al. This setting component also includes canon shop owners who are named in their shop titles. The stores have retained their names, but not their owners. Please avoid mention of Malkin, Ollivander, or any of those fun characters, though you may visit shops named for them.

A Brief History
Twenty-five years ago the wizarding world ended a bitter war concerning the rights of muggleborns in wizarding society. The fighting that took place was very far from that of a traditional war; consisting of many small battles that popped up sporadically for approximately eleven years. Given the nature of "The War," scholars have argued about its start and end for years and years, as well as its claim to be a war at all. For its strange nature, the conflict did manage to take a fair share of lives and send a fair share to Azkaban.

Muggleborn witches and wizards officially retained their right to practise magic. Some witches and wizards pursuit in their prejudice against muggleborns, but the notion is no longer politically viable in most locations. Magical society in the British Isles rebuilt. After such a long struggle, people made an effort to act as a community.

Lost in the feeling of well-being and back-patting were the so-called "beings." Though humans fell under the classification of being, they have been given greater status. The laws governing the wizarding world were made by magical humans, and those laws have favoured wizards and witches. Centaurs and merpeople rejected the intrusion of ministry affairs in their lives, but many intelligent creatures were never given the option. In the absence of strong advocacy for themselves or by people on behalf of the beings, magical laws have again started to move toward restriction of those intelligent creatures.

House elves remain slaves to old wizarding families. Centaurs have been relocated from their home forests "for the safety of wizards and muggles alike." Vampires have been banished from the British Isles and most of western Europe. Werewolves have maintained their status as social pariahs and are subject to unfair treatment by the ministry, but some law makers are working hard to ensure their lot is condemned like that of the vampires. Both vampires and werewolves have underground groups: some in London; others rural. When groups of vampires are found, they are either chained in coffins and shipped to Romania, or they are taken care of.

Both the Irish ministry and British ministry have been working hard to keep track of beings. Speculation around the isles as to the reason for such extensive records varies. Eventual expulsion from the British Isles is the more popular thought -- a thought that has gained popularity in many wizarding communities. Darker theories have surfaced in recent years: detention centres; extermination; and complete service to man. The latter theory claims the beings will become no more than beasts, thus they will become work animals and animals used for the gathering of magical materials -- bones, hair, hooves, scales, and more.

As the rights of beings have been attacked, some circles have started to question the classification of muggles. Muggles, after all, have a great deal in common with the other beings, even if they do occasionally produce a witch or wizard.

Hogwarts Today
Hogwarts, for many characters, is a large part of the past. Due to the frequency of former Hogwarts students, a brief glimpse at the Hogwarts of today is needed.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is governed over by Headmistress Amelia Nimue, a witch in her late fifties. She is a quiet, bookish, patient, and stern woman, much in favour of order and rules. Her orderliness comes from a desire to make the school strong, and within that strength she believes safety is achieved. Under her jurisdiction prefects were made to do more than just flaunt power: they had to look out for the fellow students and contribute to maintaining a peace amongst the student population. One of her biggest desires for the school was to build its sense of unity.

The only canon characters people may reference are also found within the walls of Hogwarts: the school ghosts and poltergeist.

Very few canon organisations - such as S.P.E.W., Duelling Club, and Gobstones Club - survived the overhaul. Other club activities have been put into place: Hogwarts Harbinger (newspaper), Naturalist Club, etc. Quidditch is the other huge activity to survive the transition: Quidditch Team Composition. Prefects have also been maintained.
